Pray with your heart - Proverbs 15:1-9, Matthew 6:5-7
Proverbs 15:1-9
15 A soft (tender) answer turneth away wrath: but grievous (bitter, cutting, violent) words stir up (cause to burn, ascend up) anger.
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge (cunning, awareness) aright (to cause to make well, make cheerful, better): but the mouth of fools (stupid, silly) poureth out foolishness (careless habit of mind and body).
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil (evil ones) and the good.
4 A wholesome tongue (soft tongue) is a tree of life (supporting and continuing the life which has been imparted): but perverseness (disposition to vex or cross) therein is a breach in the spirit (invisible characteristics of men).
5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth (to hedge out, to guard, protect) reproof (correction) is prudent.
6 In the house of the righteous (just, lawful) is much treasure (strength, wealth riches): but in the revenues (gain, increase, fruit) of the wicked (morally wrong, ungodly, guilty) is trouble (to afflict, disturb).
7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
Matthew 6:5-7
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
