Happy or blessed are they which believe and trust in God - Matthew 5:1-10, 5:44-48
Matthew 5:1-10
5 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed (happy) are the poor (crouching, begging: living on the alms of others) in spirit (operations of the holy spirit); for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed (happy) are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted (a consolation: the speaking which persuades and soothes).
5 Blessed (happy) are the meek (gentle, enduring all things with an even temper): for they shall inherit the earth (land).
6 Blessed (happy) are they which do hunger and thirst (idiom for a strong desire) after righteousness: for they shall be filled (fed or filled).
7 Blessed (happy) are the merciful (actively compassionate; not merely unhappy for the ills of others but delirious of relieving them): for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed (happy) are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed (happy) are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed (happy) are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:44-48
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray (pray to God) for (on behalf of) them which despitefully (threaten on insult) use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your (heavenly) Father which is in heaven is perfect.
