Trust in God to become happy – Proverbs 16:1-7, Proverbs 16-20
Proverbs 16:1-7
16 The preparations (arrangements, plans) of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue (decree), is from the Lord.
Bullinger: “To man (pertain) the plans of his heart; but from Jehovah (comes) the final decree (judicial sentence)”
2 All the ways of a man are clean (pure) in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth (with moral and spiritual weights) the spirits.
3 Commit thy works (actions) unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established (stand fast, upright).
4 The Lord hath made all things for himself (His decree, His own end): yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Every one that is proud (high, proud) in heart is an abomination (morally disgusting) to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished (made clean).
6 By mercy (grace, lovingkindness) and truth iniquity (perverseness) is purged (covered, “sealed”): and by the fear (reverential awe) of the Lord men depart from evil.
7 When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
